NCC Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology
The National Capital Consortium Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology proudly cares for service members and their dependents at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. As the only tri-service OB-GYN program within the military, our resident physicians serve in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Our faculty similarly represent all military services and the civilian sector, allowing for incredible breadth of mentorship and experience. The academic environment is further enhanced by working among fellows from four separate fellowship training programs on-site, as well medical students from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
Our residency program draws upon outstanding experiences within the region to facilitate the education of trainees. Clinical experiences occur at not only the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, but also at our affiliated sites such as Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Virginia Hospital Center, the National Institutes of Health, Holy Cross Health, and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Additional opportunities remain for elective rotations outside of the academic calendar, with residents recently rotating through the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute. Our residents are supported to find and pursue international service opportunities with humanitarian surgical missions to Honduras, Peru, and assignments on the USNS Comfort.
The PGY1 year (internship) is comprised of 5 interns (2 Army, 2 Navy, and 1 Air Force). This composition is maintained through residency, depending on the specific needs of the military. Our graduates go on to assignments worldwide; depending on service. Many graduates decide to pursue fellowships, an opportunity available to obtain subspecialty training.
Subspecialty services represented within our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology include:
- Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery*
- Gynecologic Oncology*
- Minimally Invasive Surgery*
- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility*
