Solemn observance at Walter Reed remembers 9/11

WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — “I am the flag of the United States of America. We support and defend it. I have fought in every battle of every war… In New York City on September 11, 2001, I was raised from the ashes of once proud buildings by brave firefighters, heroes who risked and gave their lives to save others, showing all that America, although bloodied, will never be beaten. For those who want to destroy me, they cannot. We will win, for I am the symbol of freedom, of one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Walter Reed nursing team recognizes members with the DAISY Award for extraordinary, lifesaving care

WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — Nurses spearhead the health care efforts at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNNMC), most often at the bedside of patients, providing the nation’s heroes and their families compassionate care around the clock. The medical center's leadership team recognizes nurses' selfless service and dedication, presenting its members with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses monthly.

Walter Reed receives "A" Grade for Patient Safety from Leapfrog Group

WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center recently received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This “A” grade highlights Walter Reed's commitment to providing the highest levels of safety and care to our nation's service members, their families, and beneficiaries.

Prostate Center at Walter Reed leads DOD’s effort in prostate cancer care

WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — Fred Cohrs is a prostate cancer good news success story. He was a high-risk patient, diagnosed by a biopsy performed at the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, then referred to the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CDPR) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) for minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery.

U.S. Air Force activates the 316th Inpatient Squadron at Walter Reed

WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — The U.S. Air Force activated the 316th Inpatient Squadron at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) on Aug. 23, 2024, the first Air Force squadron to exist entirely within Walter Reed.

National Capital Region (NCR) Child Psychiatry Fellowship Research Program Offers Child Psychiatrists Prime Training Opportunity

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, BETHESDA, Md — The Child and Family Program within the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) of the Uniformed Services University (USU) focuses on the psychological health of families, including adults and children, who have been exposed to stressful circumstances, and those in the military community.

Walter Reed salutes U.S. Navy Dental Corps, Medal of Honor recipients

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, BETHESDA, Md — Walter Reed salutes the U.S. Navy Dental Corps for its 112 years of service to the nation.

Aug. 31 is Opioid Misuse Prevention Day and International Overdose Awareness Day, observed to raise awareness about overdose and share information on possible ways to prevent it, as well as acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind. Annually, the National Capital Region Pain Initiative (NCRPI) and Tele-Pain Program, headquartered at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, host the Pain Care Skills Training in August and the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Symposium each September.
