Hospital Medicine

Hospital medicine is a type of Internal Medicine that focuses on caring for hospitalized patients. Physicians practicing hospital medicine are called hospitalists. Our full-time hospitalists have completed Internal Medicine residencies and are certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). 

Working in a fast-paced, often intense hospital environment, hospitalists have unique expertise and experience that benefit our inpatients every day. Hospitalists remain in close communication with their patients' primary care managers to ensure coordinated care and a seamless discharge from the hospital.  

Hospitalists also work closely with the Internal Medicine residency program, and other training programs, supervising and teaching our interns and residents. In addition, they engage in self-directed research projects and quality improvement initiatives, some of which have been presented at international meetings. They also work with many of our ancillary services to achieve high quality multidisciplinary care.
