The ophthalmologists at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center are committed to providing comprehensive, world-class care. Using the latest, state-of-the art equipment and procedures, our board certified specialists treat a wide range of disease, both medically and surgically, in the pediatric and adult population. Optimal vision through specialized services:

  • Vision correction
    Eye-test and lens prescription. Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgical procedures. See our Refractive Surgery Center page for more on PRK at WRNMMC.
     
  • Corneal and external disease
    Corneal infections, dystrophies, degenerations, and corneal transplantation
     
  • Cataracts
    Cataract surgery - state-of-the-art surgical techniques, including phacoemulsification and small incision (no-stitch) surgery.
  • Glaucoma and anterior segment
    Treatment of all forms of glaucoma (congenital, primary open angle, and angle closure glaucoma). Glaucoma surgery may include - laser techniques (YAG, diode, and argon lasers), anti-metabolite assisted surgery, glaucoma shunts, and cyclophotocoagulation.
     
  • Oculoplastics and orbital disorders
    Disorders of the eyelids, lacrimal (tearing) disorders, tumors, thyroid eye disease, and fractures of the orbital bones. Treatment may include oculoplastic surgery for eyelid and orbital tumors and abnormalities, tearing, fractures, etc.
  • Vitreo-retinal conditions
    Age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, macular holes, epi-retinal membranes, retinal vascular occlusions, retinal inflammation or infection, tumors, and disorders of the retina caused by diabetes.
    Vitreo-retinal surgery - for retinal detachment, macular hole and epi-retinal membrane. Laser treatments for diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal holes, and retinal vascular occlusions. Evaluation of patients with retinal dystrophies such as retinitis pigmentosa, including electrophysiologic testing of retinal function.
