Due to the limited appointment availability, dental examinations, and routine treatment needed for deployment readiness should be arranged at least 30 to 60 days in advance to avoid scheduling delays.
Walk-in examinations may be available on a standby basis for dental class 4 service members that require a periodic oral evaluation (more than 15 months since last dental check-up).
In/out processing and documents/forms requiring a dental signature endorsement are available on a walk-in basis.
Dental Sick Call for Active Duty Service Members
Sick call services are available for active duty service members Monday through Friday from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Active duty service members can also schedule a sick call appointment 24 hours prior to being examined for acute dental concerns.
The availability of dental services for non-active duty service members are limited. TRICARE-eligible beneficiaries experiencing a dental emergency should contact the Walter Reed Emergency Department at 301-295-4810 or in person. An on-call dental officer will be notified to evaluate acute treatment needs.
After Hours Emergency Dental Services
An on-call dental officer is available after normal working hours for treatment of dental emergencies such as severe pain, swelling and traumatic injuries of the mouth. If this service is required, please contact the Walter Reed Emergency Department at 301-295-4810.
TRICARE Active Duty Dental Program (ADDP)
The Active Duty Dental Program (ADDP) provides civilian dental care for active duty service members (ADSMs). Its goal is to ensure your dental health and deployment readiness. United Concordia Companies, Inc. (United Concordia) administers the ADDP for the Department of Defense (DOD).
Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service and remotely located service members are eligible for remote ADDP benefits regardless of location.
CONUS remote active duty service members can self-refer for routine care and will need an
appointment control number (ACN) from United Concordia before receiving civilian care.
CONUS non-remote active duty service members assigned to a military dental treatment facility (DTF) must consult their associated dental clinic before seeking civilian dental treatment through the ADDP. It is at the discretion of the assigned DTF to determine if planned dental care should be referred to a civilian dental provider. A DTF-initiated referral must be submitted to United Concordia with all required information by the assigned clinic before dental care can be scheduled.
Any questions regarding dental care under the TRICARE Active Duty Dental Program, please contact the ADDP contractor,
United Concordia.
