Soldiers inducted into NCO Corps at Walter Reed

Savi’s Legacy: Inspiring Strength in All

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, BETHESDA, MD — July 19 marked the three-month anniversary of the loss of Savi Redman, diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 7. Her legacy endures through her positive impact on the pediatric oncology department at Walter Reed and all who had the privilege of meeting her. “She was the light of our lives, just a unicorn. Always positive, always energetic, and [she] found the joy in every single day,” said Shannon Feaster, Savi's mother.

Walter Reed Director, leaders recognize military medical officers for emergency, lifesaving care

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, BETHESDA, Md — Walter Reed Director, U.S. Navy Capt. (Dr.) Melissa Austin, awarded command coins to Army Maj. (Dr.) Carlie Cerne and Army Capt. Mark DeJesus during a meeting of the hospital’s board of directors on July 16 for the emergency and lifesaving care Cerne and DeJesus provided on a recent medevac and off base respectively.

Walter Reed first in DOD to perform new, safer procedure for AFib

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, BETHESDA, Md. — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s electrophysiology laboratory recently performed the Department of Defense’s first pulsed field ablation (PFA) to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib). PFA offers a safer option for AFib, according to retired U.S. Navy Capt. (Dr.) Matthew Needleman, a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist. Needleman led the team that performed the procedure on an active-duty service member with a deployment-limiting arrythmia, enabling the service member to be globally deployable.

U.S. Navy Capt. Juan Rosario recently came onboard as the new chief of staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. "I’ve also witnessed firsthand the dedication and commitment of the WRNMMC staff while my daughter received treatment for cancer in 2018. Serving as the new chief of staff gives me the opportunity to say thank you and to give back to the team that was instrumental in my daughter’s healing and being cancer free today.”
