Diabetes Classes
Survival Skills
We offer a 4-hour session called Diabetes Patient Education Survival Skills. It is a multidisciplinary session covering pathophysiology, medications, nutrition, exercise, complications, health maintenance, traveling, sick day management, and psychosocial aspects. Each section has instructors who are WRNMMC specialists.
Diabetes Self-Management Education Program
This class has been awarded education recognition by the American Diabetes Association. It is an intense 12-hour program divided into three 4-hour sessions. The same topics are covered as in the survival skills teaching but in greater detail. More emphasis is placed on individual behavioral goal setting and lifestyle modification. The instructors follow participants three months after completing the program to discuss status of personal goal setting and to check a post-class hemoglobin A1C. These classes are for beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Each participant is advised to attend the entire program. Please call the Diabetes Care Center directly at 301-295-3037 to register.
