BETHESDA, Md. — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center stands as a designated “Baby-Friendly Hospital,” a distinction that reflects its rigorous adherence to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) 10 steps to successful breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding. Originally designated by the WHO in 2017, Walter Reed is one of only 460 hospitals nationwide—and one of just three on a military installation—to hold this prestigious status.

A new front on cancer: Walter Reed’s Murtha Cancer Center unleashes cutting-edge CAR-T therapy
BETHESDA, Md. — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Murtha Cancer Center was recently approved to deliver an advanced form of treatment for cancer. The therapy, known as Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy (CAR-T), allows Walter Reed to treat patients with forms of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia by reprogramming their own blood cells to hunt and destroy the cancer cells within them.

Clear care: Walter Reed receives recognition for full transparency
BETHESDA, Md. — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center recently earned the Leapfrog Group’s Full Transparency Badge for completing and submitting all portions of its annual hospital survey. Initiated in 2018, the survey is a wide-ranging evaluation of how participating hospitals and surgery centers are managing patient care and safety, resources and clinical quality. The survey covers nine sections broken down into areas such as patient rights and ethics, high-risk surgeries, maternity, staffing, pediatric care and other critical hospital operations.
