Walter Reed Pediatric Dentistry Team Provides Dental Screenings at Child Development Centers in National Capital Region

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center's pediatric dentistry team is taking proactive efforts to improve dental health among children within the military health system throughout the National Capital Region (NCR). Riding on the annual observance of Children's Dental Health Month, the team will provide dental screenings to children ages 3 to 5, at five Child Development Centers (CDCs) across the NCR.

The Human Experience is Re-imagined at Walter Reed

Allergy/Immunology fellows from Walter Reed come out on top in FIT Bowl

The FIT Bowl is one the most anticipated events every year during the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI) Annual Scientific Meeting. During the most recent bowl, which celebrated its 32nd anniversary, fellows from Walter Reed walked away with the first-place trophy in the fast-paced, fun “College Bowl” style game contested before a live, enthusiastic audience. Army Capts. (Drs.) Andrew Weskamp and Jeremy McMurray, from the National Capital Consortium (NCC) Allergy and Immunology Fellowship program, finished first in the competition among fellows-in-training (FIT) held in Anaheim, California on Nov. 11. The NCC includes graduate medical education (GME) programs at Walter Reed, Uniformed Services University, Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and other military health-care training program in the region.

Pediatric Sedation Unit makes a difference in the care of children at Walter Reed

“Children are not merely ‘little adults.’ There are unique physiological and maturational changes that occur with age. There is also no one-size-fits-all approach to medications for children. Children are constantly growing, and so their medication doses are given based on their bodyweight and repeated as needed to achieve the desired effect in the safest manner.” Army Col. (Dr.) Jennifer Kicker, medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Sedation Services at Walter Reed, shared that professional knowledge in explaining the mission of the Pediatric Sedation Unit (PSU).
