The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has recognized Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) as one of the first 25 hospitals verified through its inaugural Quality Verification Program (QVP). WRNMMC was the only Department of Defense facility achieving the ACS quality verification. The ACS announced the 25 hospitals, 22 in the United States and three international facilities, earning the verification last month.

WRNMMC now offering all FDA-approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to under five beneficiaries

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) is now offering the Pfizer-BioNTech three-dose primary series vaccine for children aged six months to four years. The move comes after a recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to expand COVID-19 vaccination to children younger than five years of age.

The Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center hosted its 2022 Research Showcase virtually June 23. The MCC is the Department of Defense’s only Cancer Center of Excellence. The event highlighted work underway in research, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer by staff affiliated with the MCC Research Program (MCCRP), Uniformed Services University (USU), and other institutes affiliated with the MCC, explained retired Army Col. WRNMMC’s Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Committee Chair sheds light on monkeypox virus

The Chair of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said the Monkeypox virus would likely not spread in the U.S. like COVID-19. LCDR Sara Robinson, who is also an infectious diseases physician, made the comment on June 6 while shedding light on the virus and its mode of transmission after infections had been reported in over 30 countries. As of June 22, CDC says 156 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in the U.S. in 23 states and the District of Columbia.

General Jack Davis, paid tribute to victims of the recent shooting at an elementary school in Texas during a recent morning colors formation at the facility. He said the tragic event and others like it are especially impactful on the staff, which is largely made up of military personnel and healthcare workers who are committed to protecting lives.
