WRNMMC now offering all FDA-approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to under five beneficiaries
WRNMMC, Bethesda, MD — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) is now offering the Pfizer-BioNTech three-dose primary series vaccine for children aged six months to four years. The move comes after a recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to expand COVID-19 vaccination to children younger than five years of age.

Murtha Cancer Center Hosts Cancer Research Showcase
WRNMMC, Bethesda, MD — The Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center hosted its 2022 Research Showcase virtually June 23. The MCC is the Department of Defense’s only Cancer Center of Excellence. The event highlighted work underway in research, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer by staff affiliated with the MCC Research Program (MCCRP), Uniformed Services University (USU), and other institutes affiliated with the MCC, explained retired Army Col. (Dr.) Craig Shriver, MCC director.

WRNMMC’s Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Committee Chair sheds light on monkeypox virus
WRNMMC, Bethesda, MD — The Chair of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said the Monkeypox virus would likely not spread in the U.S. like COVID-19. LCDR Sara Robinson, who is also an infectious diseases physician, made the comment on June 6 while shedding light on the virus and its mode of transmission after infections had been reported in over 30 countries. As of June 22, CDC says 156 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in the U.S. in 23 states and the District of Columbia.

WRNMMC’s prosthetics unit gives relief to military kid with special needs
WRNMMC, Bethesda, MD — Paisley Minor is just 5 years old, but yet she is strong and talented. Her friendly smile brightens the room as she enters the prosthetics and orthopedics unit despite her struggle to walk. Paisley is a double amputee who has had a total of seven surgeries. She is also battling several other medical conditions. She can only walk with the help of artificial limbs, but that does not stop her from being herself - happy, singing, smiling and sometimes running.
