Public Health Nursing/Preventive Medicine Service

Preventive Medicine is the art and science of protecting and improving the health of the community through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, research for disease and injury prevention, and assuring conditions in which people can be healthy.

We provide health promotion, health education, and disease prevention and direct treatment for service members, their families, retirees, civilian employees and other National Capital Region beneficiaries.

Programs and Services

Epidemiology and Disease Control

  • Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic
    • Walk-in STI Clinic: 0800-1100, Mon-Fri
  • Communicable Disease Education, Surveillance, Reporting, Outbreak Investigation and Epidemiology
  • HIV Program Coordinator and HIV Program Management/Counseling
  • Responsible sexual behavior and health counseling
  • Condom Provision

Tuberculosis (TB) Program/Surveillance

  • Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI) Clinic
  • MTF Annual TB Risk Assessment

Health Promotions and Wellness

  • Coordinate health fair observances and community education
  • Coordinate and liaise the annual influenza vaccination program for active duty service members and employees
  • United States Army Public Health Command Coordination/Liaison
  • Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center Coordination/Liaison

Health Consultant to Child and Youth Programs

Animal Bite and Rabies Control

Blood Look Back Program (non-FDA)

  • Notify, counsel and screen recipients of emergency blood products in theater.

Smallpox Vaccination Program

  • Vaccination provided in clinic by appointment only on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Requirements must be met prior to appointment:
    • Orders or memorandum from unit justifying vaccination requirement
    • HIV test within the last 12 months
    • Females: must have a negative pregnancy test within the last 30 days
