Sergeant Major Dennis Waycaster was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He enlisted into active duty with the United States Army in June 1995, attending Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Upon completion of training, he was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 68W, Healthcare Specialist. SGM Waycaster also attended Basic Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia in January 1996.

During his military career, SGM Waycaster’s assignments and leadership positions have included: Treatment Platoon Sergeant, 546th Area Support Medical Company, Fort Hood, Texas; Battalion Senior Medic, 2nd Battalion 20th Field Artillery, Fort Hood, Texas; Senior Instructor for Basic Introduction to Army Medicine, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge (NCOIC) Internal Medicine Clinic, Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Washington; Senior Enlisted Advisor for Deputy Commander for Surgical Services, MAMC, JBLM; First Sergeant, Charlie Company, 2nd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, JBLM; Medical Operations NCOIC, 1st Corps Surgeon, JBLM; Medical Operations NCOIC, 8th Army Surgeon Directorate, Camp Humphreys, Korea.

SGM Waycaster earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix. His military education includes the United States Army Sergeants Majors Academy, Army Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Advanced Leadership Course, Senior Leadership Course, and Master Leadership Course.

SGM Waycaster’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon with numeral 5, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 3.
