Research and Innovation Month

The Department of Research Programs, hosted by the Research Education Services, offers an annual month-long event to celebrate the significance of research on military medicine. Trainees, staff, and faculty are invited to participate in numerous events to learn and to share their knowledge with the public. Events include the following below:

Research and Inquiry Competitions

  • Abstract Submission — Participants must complete a nomination form and submit the appropriate paperwork, including the abstract, into an electronic system by the end of January.
  • Poster Display Week — An opportunity for all participants to display a poster for public exhibition. This includes non-finalists and finalists, as well as those in research and non-research categories. All posters will be displayed in the Mezzanine Center, East, and West Wings of Building 9. Posters based on Unity of Effort will carry its logo in the upper right corner. Unity of Effort reflects the partnerships among Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (Walter Reed Bethesda) and its neighbors, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the National Institutes of Health.
  • Poster Competitions — Finalist from the inquiry competition categories will present their posters to judges. Award ribbons will be pinned next to the winning posters of each research competition category.
  • Research Symposium I and II — Finalists for the Bailey K. Ashford and Robert A. Phillips awards will conduct a slide presentation to present their research. Judges will be present to ask questions and calculate scores. Winners will be determined at the end of Research Symposium II.
