Walter Reed Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department All Smiles After Passing Rigorous CODA Inspection

Army Col. Wendy Woodall becomes Walter Reed’s Nursing Director
WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — Army Col. Wendy G. Woodall recently became the new director for nursing services and chief nursing officer at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She oversees a staff of approximately 2,000 active duty, GS and contract nurses who serve as caregivers, patient advocates, administrators, researchers, educators, comforters, and confidants to patients, staff, visitors and each other at Walter Reed. They assist in providing care and services to more than 1 million Military Health System beneficiaries every year.
Walter Reed recognized by organ procurement agency
WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — Infinite Legacy, formerly the Washington Regional Transplant Community, recently recognized Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) with a Gold Award for WRNMMC’s compliance and timeliness within the organ and tissue procurement network. Walter Reed is the sole Department of Defense’s military medical treatment facility that does organ transplants (kidney). The medical center averages approximately 50 procedures annually and is rated as a 5-STAR program by Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), a regulatory body that tracks transplant program outcomes, according to Sharriff McGee, a registered nurse and program director for Organ Transplant Service at WRNMMC.

Neuropsychiatry/TBI Unit at Walter Reed unique in DoD
WRNMMC, Bethesda, Md. — Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) has the Department of Defense’s only Neuropsychiatry/Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Unit. It serves as a referral program for Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries throughout the defense department, as well as for congressional members needing care for the impacts of head injuries and other behavioral health challenges.

Walter Reed doctor named Navy’s Early Career Psychiatrist of the Year
