Combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry Residency

The combined NCC Internal Medicine / Psychiatry training program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center brings together the best Internal Medicine and Psychiatry training in the country.

Located in the heart of federal medicine next to the National Institutes of Health and Uniformed Services University, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center anchors an integrated military healthcare system, with 50 ICU beds, 296 patient rooms, 40 inpatient acute psychiatric beds, 27 ER beds, a 7-story outpatient building, and a new gym/pool.

The NCC Combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry Residency is a 5 year graduate medical education program. The rotation sites for internal medicine include Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, DC VA, Virginia Hospital Center, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, and US Naval Base, Guam. The psychiatry rotation sites are equally broad with sites at Walter Reed, Ft Belvoir, National Children’s, Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute, Kolmac Clinic Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center, INOVA Fairfax and National Intrepid Center of Excellence facilities. Our residents are able to train at local prisons during their forensic month, complete operational rotations at Landstuhl RMC or other operational locations. The variety and richness of specialized medical and psychiatric patients in the National Capital Area is without equal. You will experience mentorship from national and international thought-leaders in their given specialties and will have a chance to serve one of the best patient populations in the country. Residents spend 50% of their training time in each specialty and are eligible for board certification in both Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the conclusion of their training.
