Application Procedures

United States Army 73B psychologists interested in applying for the fellowship can obtain instructions for application from the Long Term Health Education and Training (LTHET) program, Medical Service Corps, United States Army. Information about the LTHET program can be found at the Army Human Resources Command (HRC) web page.  Application deadlines vary from year to year, so applicants should consult the relevant Milper Message, usually available in December, for the most up to date information.  Interviews with the Fellowship Director are conducted in later December or early January, with selections announced in June or July. The fellowship will ordinarily begin on July 1 of the year following selection announcements (i.e., about 18 months after applying to the program), but alternative starting dates as late as mid-August to mid-September may be possible to negotiate with the Fellowship Director and Psychology Consultant on an individual basis, depending on the unique circumstances of the fellow.  Check the Army HRC web page for the application materials required by the LTHET program.  

In addition to the application materials required by LTHET, applicants must send the following materials to the Fellowship Director (preferably via email): a letter of interest, graduate and undergraduate transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a curriculum vita, and a de-identified sample report (preferably neuropsychological or one in which a neurocognitive issue is addressed). Telephonic interviews are scheduled with the Fellowship Director following receipt of application materials. Based on the interview and review of application materials, the Fellowship Director makes a determination as to whether the applicant meets qualifications for fellowship training in clinical neuropsychology and advises the Army HRC accordingly. A Selection Board comprised of senior United States Army Medical Service Corps officers (usually including one psychologist) selects fellows upon consideration of the various aspects of the qualified applicants’ backgrounds and military careers.

Salary and Benefits

Salary and benefits for Active Duty WRNMMC postdoctoral fellows in clinical neuropsychology are commensurate with military rank. Military pay rate tables can be found on the Defense Finance and Accounting Service website. Other benefits include:

• 20 days of accrued leave per year plus Federal holidays
• Permissive TDY allows travel for approved professional reasons and is not counted against military leave
• The Federal Tort Claims Act (Title 28, U.S.C., Section 2679) provides protection from individual tort liability (only applies to health service activities provided within the scope of the fellow’s their military duties)
