NCC Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

Program Details

The three year fellowship is accredited in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The purpose is to train military fellows (from all services) who upon completion of the program will serve as teaching faculty at one of the Armed Forces OB/GYN or Urology residencies.

The faculty consists of the following:

Walter Reed (WRNMMC)
4 board certified FPMRS Staff
2 Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists
1 Female Urologist
2 Colo-Rectal Surgeons

Mid-Atlantic Urogynecology and Pelvic Surgery (Inova Fairfax Hospital)
3 board certified FPMRS Staff

Overview

  • Fellows also rotate with Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy, GI and have an opportunity for rotation at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital with FPMRS, Urology, and Colo-Rectal Surgery.
  • All fellows since 2003 have graduated with over 600 surgical cases in laparoscopic, robotic, vaginal surgery, fistulas, ureterolysis, sacral neuromodulation, stents, rectopexy, etc.
  • Clinical exposure includes PFPT, Urology, Colo-Rectal, pelvic ultrasound, MRI, complex urodynamics, bladder and pelvic floor Botox, bulking procedures, post-operative complications, etc.
  • There are regularly scheduled didactic lectures, videos, and journal articles covering all topics listed in the FPMRS Guide to Learning.
  • Each fellow will complete postgraduate university-level biostatics and epidemiology courses at the Uniformed Services University.
  • Research opportunities include both clinical and basic science. There are both ongoing projects at WRNMMC, USUHS, Inova, and in collaboration with outside facilities.
